Sometimes I don’t quite foresee the effects of taking a story in a particular direction. For example, the original ending of strip #57 where Simon is talking to himself in the mirror was supposed to be that he is talking to someone for a bit, and then it is revealed that the other person was infact his own reflection in a mirror, ie he’s losing it.
When it came to draw that, I couldn’t get the scene to look right, and the gag depended on not being able to identify who Simon was talking to. So I abandoned that idea and came up with the “biff must burn” rant, which seemed like a good idea at the time. Of course, the logical extension of that is that he’d spend some time trying to burn biff, which has lead to me needing to do a bunch of strips covering that, when I wanted to get back to a different storyline.
And since I only do a comic once a week, a spot of artistic block caused almost a month delay in the storyline I’ve been building towards. *sigh*
Oh, and for those who haven’t read some of the earlier strips, the “Kitchen Fire” which Postie is referring to occurred in Strip #8.
